Gregory Stockmal Memorial Reading, co-sponsored with the Worcester County Poetry Association.
J.D. Scrimgeour lives in Salem, Massachusetts, where some of his ancestors were executed for practicing witchcraft and others served on the juries that found them guilty. He has published five volumes of poems influenced by various musical, dramatic, or literary forms, most recently Banana Bread, a collection he composed in Mandarin. Scrimgeour’s work often focuses on class and education, exploring what constitutes authentic learning in exchanges between students and teachers, as in his book Themes for English B: A Professor’s Education In & Out of Class, which won the AWP Award for Nonfiction. Scrimgeour also writes about sports—including Spin Moves, a basketball memoir—and collaborates on performances that combine poetry with music. At Holy Cross, he will present the Stockmal Memorial Poetry Reading, an annual event co-sponsored with the Worcester County Poetry Association and hosted by a different college or university each year
The Working Writers Series is an annual lecture series that brings writers to campus to read from their works, discuss their craft, and answer questions from students and community members..
