Rosanna Xia is an environmental reporter and staff writer at the Los Angeles Times whose first book, California Against the Sea, investigates the problem of the rising sea and the vanishing coastline. To discover how people respond to this crisis, she includes the voices of Indigenous leaders, community activists, small-town mayors, urban engineers, and tenacious environmental scientists. In bringing these various perspectives together, Xia raises essential questions about social justice, equity, and different forms of knowledge as well as how people can join forces to address climate change. Her work has appeared in an anthology of Best Science and Nature Writing and has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in journalism. Xia’s visit is co-sponsored by the Creative Writing Program and Environmental Studies.
The Working Writers Series is an annual lecture series that brings writers to campus to read from their works, discuss their craft, and answer questions from students and community members.
