SUMMARY:Polytope | Memory
DESCRIPTION:Department of Music\n \n \n \n \n \n Polytope\n \n \n \n \n \n Memory\n \n \n \n \n \n Funded by The Patrick E. Moriarty\, M.D. ’57 Visiting Scholars Program\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nMemory is a concert curated for Polytope Music’s 2026 residency program at Holy Cross. An immersive\, interactive work featuring Jie Ma\, pipa player (traditional Chinese lute)\, Brian Foreman\, percussionist and electronic musician\, and Professor Brian Saia\, sound designer. \nWhere thousands of years of eastern tradition meet music technology\, it’s an evening that asks the question: what does it mean to remember through sound? \nThe performance is the culmination of a residency that brings Polytope Music into the classroom\, where students work alongside the artists to explore how tradition and technology can be woven into living sound. As the past speaks to the present\, Memory does what music has always done best — it draws us toward connection across generations and cultures\, time and space. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Details\n \n \n \n \n \n \n September 10\, 20267:30 p.m. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Price\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Free Entry\, Reservation Required. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Venue\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nBoroughs TheatrePrior Performing Arts Center

SUMMARY:Wild & Tended | Mary Mackenzie\, soprano & Matthew Jaskot\, piano
DESCRIPTION:Department of Music\n \n \n \n \n \n Holy Cross Jazz Ensemble\n \n \n \n \n \n Funded by The Patrick E. Moriarty\, M.D. ’57 Visiting Scholars Program\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nAcclaimed Worcester-based soprano Mary Mackenzie and Matthew Jaskot present Wild & Tended\, a program of art song for soprano & piano. \nThe art song is a cultivated form — it emerged in the early 19th century\, as composers began to set poetry to music in a more deliberate and expressive way\, using melody\, harmony\, and rhythm\, to convey the emotional and psychological depth of the text. The 20th century saw significant changes in the genre\, with the influence of atonality\, serialism\, folk music\, and popular music. \nArt song was born as an intimate genre\, written to be performed in people’s homes — music for a room\, for a gathered circle of friends\, for a voice close enough to hear every detail. It continues to be a vibrant and diverse genre\, and this program lives in that tension — between the wild and the tended — tracing the art song from its Romantic roots to music written in our own time. \nProgram to include works by Clara Schumann\, Hugo Wolf\, Arnold Schoenberg\, Francis Poulenc\, John Frantzen and more. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Details\n \n \n \n \n \n \n September 24\, 20267:30 p.m. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Price\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Free Entry \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Venue\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nBrooks Concert Hall
