Gerald Cantor Art Gallery \n \n \n \n \n \n Michael Beatty: Fabrications\n \n \n \n \n \n Selected works from 1992 to present\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nAssociate Professor Emeritus Michael Beatty taught sculpture and three-dimensional design at Holy Cross for 25 years before retiring in 2023. This retrospective exhibition celebrating his sculptural practice investigates duality and hierarchy as a dialogue between technology-assisted and handmade forms. Beatty’s work\, inclusive of prints and drawings\, is informed by concepts and visual culture taken from science\, nature\, and mathematics. Beatty’s sculptures and drawings are evocative hybrids of geometry and biological form. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Details\n \n \n \n \n \n \n January 21-April 5\, 2025 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Price\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Free Entry \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Venue\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nIris & B. DESCRIPTION:Prior Presents 2024–25 with The Huntington Theatre\n \n \n \n \n \n Mfoniso Udofia’s Sojourners\n \n RSVP: Tue Nov 19\, 2024 @ 7:00 PM\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nWith Sojourners\, the first chapter in her sweeping Ufot Cycle\, nationally acclaimed playwright Mfoniso Udofia explores the collision of marriage\, migration\, and the pursuit of education. Set in 1978\, this lively\, funny play centers on a young and brilliant Nigerian couple arrives in Houston\, looking to earn their degrees and bring insights back to their home country. But when Abasiama discovers that her husband has been seduced by Motown records and American culture\, she has to choose between the Nigerian Dream and her obligations as a matriarch.  \nUdofia draws inspiration for the nine-play Ufot Cycle from her time growing up in Southbridge\, MA and from meeting playwright August Wilson at Boston’s Huntington Theatre. The Prior is thrilled to partner with the Huntington on this pop-up event\, which brings the company’s full production of Sojourners to Holy Cross.  \nUdofia’s plays have previously been produced at New York Theatre Workshop\, American Conservatory Theater\, the Playwrights Realm\, the Boston Court\, and more. She also writes and produces for film and television\, including on “Lessons in Chemistry\,” “Let the Right One In\,” and “A League of Their Own.” \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nContent Advisory\nThis performance includes a content advisory. Its intimate setting creates a process that is democratic\, participative\, and that across history has been compared to a conversation among friends. This recital features the students who participate in the Chamber Music course as they perform the works they have studied during the semester. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Details\n \n \n \n \n \n \n November 19\, 20246:00 PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Price\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Free Entry \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Venue\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nBrooks Concert Hall

DESCRIPTION:Department of Music | Lunchtime Concert Series\n \n \n \n \n \n Children of Shadow and Light\n \n \n \n \n \n Sergio Muñoz Leiva\, viola\nMatt Jaskot\, piano\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nChildhood: a time of innocence\, joy\, and promise. It is because of these associations that the suffering and loss of children seem more poignant and tragic. \nViolist Sergio Muñoz Leiva and pianist Matthew Jaskot present chamber music inspired by children and the complex emotions that arise when childhood intersects with war\, social injustice\, and death. Lighthearted compositions by Chick Corea (excerpts from Children’s Songs) and Robert Schumann (excerpts from Kinderszenen) are contrasted by music by Mary Kouyoumdjian (A Boy and a Makeshift Toy)\, Victor Jara (Luchín)\, and Jaskot (Still\, You Bloom in my Heart\, world premiere).  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Details\n \n \n \n \n \n \n November 6\, 202412:00 PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Price\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Free Entry \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Venue\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nThe BeehiveThe Prior Performing Arts Center

In fact\, many of the things we see as blue have no blue pigments in them at all. Why\, then\, do we perceive them as blue and how does science make that possible?  Of course\, some things are colored by pigments — we will explore the science of those colors as well. \nJoin us for this fascinating conversation at the Cantor Art Gallery with Class Deans and Professors Sarah Petty (Chemistry) and Rob Bellin (Biology) about the science of color. \nFree entry and blue-colored snacks provided! \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Details\n\n \n \n \n \n \n October 22\, 2024\n4:00 PM\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Price\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Free Entry\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Venue\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nIris & B.
