The Holy Cross Chamber Singers will be performing a program based on musical psalm settings. The Book of Psalms, a biblical text, comprises 150 sacred poems that were intended for singing in worship. These texts have been set both with and without instruments for liturgical use and for performance in the concert hall, and have provided composers with musical inspiration for centuries. Highlights include psalm settings by Nathan Carter, William Grant Still, William Byrd, George Frideric Handel, and Herbert Howells. The program also features several antiphons, or musical settings that provide commentary on the text and proceed or follow a psalm, by James MacMillan and Anton Bruckner.
