Elena Passarello

Elena Passarello is an actor, a writer, and the recipient of a 2015 Whiting Award. Her first essay collection, Let Me Clear My Throat, won the gold medal for nonfiction at the 2013 Independent
Publisher Awards. Her second collection, Animals Strike Curious Poses—which is loosely modeled on a medieval bestiary—won the 2018 Oregon Book Award for creative nonfiction.
Passarello’s essays on performance, pop culture, and the natural world have appeared in Oxford American, Slate, Creative Nonfiction, and The Iowa Review, among other venues, as well as in the anthologies Cat is Art Spelled Wrong and After Montaigne: Contemporary Essayists Cover the Essay. She lives in Corvallis, Oregon and teaches at Oregon State University.
The Working Writers Series is an annual lecture series that brings writers to campus to read from their works, discuss their craft, and answer questions from students and community members.
