The Far Country
September 19-20, 2023 | 7:30 pm
A 2023 Pulitzer finalist for drama and recent off-Broadway hit, “The Far Country” by Lloyd Suh is an intimate epic following an unlikely family’s journey from rural China to California in the wake of the Chinese Exclusion Act at the turn of the 20th century. Called “fluid and artful” by the New York Times, “The Far Country” is a “loving and sorrowful [act] of reclamation, salvaging the history of early generations of Chinese Americans” while making “space for others…to trace vestiges of their own histories.” Performances of “The Far Country” will be presented as intimate readings in the black box theater.
Playwright Lloyd Suh is the recipient of the Steinberg Playwright Award, the Horton Foote Prize, and the Herb Alpert Award in the Arts, among others. His work has been produced at theaters around the country, including the Public Theater, the Atlantic Theater, Barrington Stage, and Long Wharf Theater, and received support from organizations such as the NEA, the Mellon Foundation, and the Jerome Foundation.
World Premiere presented by Atlantic Theater Company, New York City, 2022.
“The Far Country” is presented through special arrangement with TRW PLAYS. www.trwplays.com.
