Renata wakes up in Caronte’s boat, fearing she is merely a silent shadow, destined for death. To return home, she navigates the underworld —a journey narrated by the Morella siblings— to find wisdom unavailable on Earth. Renata meets four historical/mythological mentors: Ismene (an ancient Greek priestess and sister of Antigone), Anacaona (a Taína chieftess who plotted against the Spanish conquistadores), Camilla (a Volscian warrioress who fights the Trojans in the Aeneid) and Micaela Bastidas Puyucahua (a Quechua revolutionary who fought to end Spanish colonial rule in Peru). Will these encounters transform her from being an uncertain passenger into a leader who refuses to be silenced?
