Lynn Kremer directs her own adaptation of Grace Lin’s enchanting novel. The heroine, Minli, is a young girl who lives in poverty, helping her parents harvest rice. In the evenings, her father recounts fantastic Chinese folk tales about the Old Man of the Moon that inspire her to seek him out and ask for his help improving the lives of her family and community. Minli’s journey introduces her to talking creatures who bring her father’s stories to life, including a dragon who becomes her traveling companion and loyal friend. The play is a testament to generosity of spirit and childlike faith, and its theme is the power of stories.
